Method: The present study is a selective review. Results: The most important result of the study is the synthesis of the heterogeneous research areas of psychological overprotection, thus the attempt to establish a common basis of these areas to foster effective scientific communication.
This article clusters those phenomena under the term psychological overprotection, which have been integrated only partly or to a little extent in the international scientific literature yet. Based on the former attempts at a definition, it offers a comprehensive definition, which places the different types of overprotection in a uniform frame, accentuating not just the protective parental functions but the preparing functions as well.
